Everyone has questions about visiting the dentist. Below are some of the common questions we hear every day.
Is it really necessary to see the dentist every six months?
Yes! The American Dental Association recommends bi-annual visit to the dentist for a cleaning and exam. The cleanings remove plaque build up that causes tooth decay and the exam helps us identify any dental problems you may be having. Early identification means we can treat you sooner, minimizing your time in the chair and your cost.
Does a cleaning hurt?
No. The process is gentle and safe. Your hygienist and dentist will make you as comfortable as possible, and the entire process only takes about 20 minutes. Cleanings are important the preventing tooth decay and the exams help us identify any problems that may be present.
Should I get a silver filling or a tooth colored filling?
Most practices now use composite resin (tooth-colored) fillings for the majority of cavities. If you prefer a silver filling, just let your dentist know.
Will teeth whitening make my teeth sensitive?
Some patients experience mild sensitivity, especially to hot or cold beverages, after a whitening procedure. The sensitivity usually doesn’t last long, and there are toothpastes specifically designed for sensitive teeth that can help minimize the sensitivity you feel. For a few weeks, let your beverages cool a bit before you drink and take your cold drinks without ice.
There’s a gap between my front teeth, and it makes me self-conscious. What are my options?
There are several options for you. Orthodontia can shift the teeth and close the gap. We could also close the gap with tooth bonding, which involves applying a dental material that adheres to the teeth permanently. Schedule an appointment with one of our doctors today to discuss which option will be best for your situation.
